Depends on the age of the child. What I did for my 5 yr old when he was 3 was talk to him about what I expected. Then I put him in underwear and put blankets and rugs all over the furniture (just in case). I set a timer for 45 minutes and once the timer went off I would make him sit on the potty for 5 minutes or so. I also made it fun….made up a song and sat with him. I did this all day long for several days. Halfway through the first day he was already going on the potty, and by the 3rd day I didn’t have to set the timer anymore…he was telling me when he had to go. I also put up a sticker chart and each time he went in the potty I gave him a sticker to put on his chart.

I tried when he was 2.5 but he wasn’t ready then. He had no interest in it and it didn’t work. I waited then until he was 3 and it was so much easier. They have to be ready to do it. Don’t force it.

    Good luck!

Well, the first is to let them see you go potty on the big kid potty, then they will be excited about it. You can try a little potty of their own, but my older kids didnt really want that one, they wanted to use the big potty. Dont try to make little boys sit to pee, this will be a disaster when they pee um, forward onto the floor! Just be patient. Take them every so often. If they are scared of the flush sound, just dont flush it when they are near the potty. Make it fun. You can put some cheerios in the potty for little boys to aim at. If they do use the big potty, get a soft spongy seat that just sits on top of the big seat, so they dont fall in! Make sure they go before bedtime and before long trips.

Just be consistent. Try putting him/her on the potty at the same time each day and have them go in the bathroom when you go potty. That’s what I did and it worked like a charm that I never had to buy pill ups with both of my boys. We went from diapers to underwear and it was easy. If they see what you do, then they will want to do the same. Also doing it at around the same time each day helps. Make a chart with the days of the week and have them put a sticker on the days they use the potty and reward them at the end of the week. Good Luck. Be consistent.

I have helped to potty train close to 20 kids over the years and the one method that I have found to work the best is that every time you and anyone else in the family goes potty, you take the potty training child in and put them on the potty. Give a reward for going potty and make it a big deal with everyone stopping what they are doing and clapping.
If they child looses focus bring ina book or coloring book for them to look at or color.
And try to put them on every 30 to 60 minutes if possible.
