YOu are exactly right…as well, the puppies do not have large memories- and the smell will trigger the fact that the business of going is at hand. References :
Your NOT nuts!! I’ve taught mine to do their business in one area. Our front yard is their ‘yard’ too, but I dont want to have to pick up poop off the sidewalk. Of course mine are 4 &1 years old. It took them a few weeks to learn to only do it in that area but it has worked out very well for us. References :
Great way to train a pup! Just remember though if you live in a cold weather climate you’ll have to bring her out to that spot in the winter months too.
I trained my dogs to pee and poop way out in the back of our yard, they still do their business out there now and their 3 and 4 years old. References :
Your are right, they need their own spot. When my dog was a pup, I had a spot out in the yard I called the pee-tree and I would take him out to the same place all the time, I even started out by cleaning up any accidents in the house with paper towels and taking that out there to the pee-tree too. Good idea! Most dogs will naturally return to the same spot if given the chance. I have 6 dogs(rescue) in a large fenced yard, and they all use the far back corner for their bathroom. I didn’t teach them to…..they did it on their own. Makes clean up so much easier. References : personal experience
They are creatures of habit and prefer to go in the same place. You had a brilliant idea to help her find it quickly.
But always remember this– the wife is always right. Whether it seems that way or not, the wife is always right. Knowing that will bring you a more peaceful life and more active nightlife. Repeat it to yourself often, "my wife is always right…. my wife is always right" until it gets deep into your psyche. References :
let the puppy chose for it self……..if you want to start house braking her use a play pen at night……..put a bell by the door that she will use to go outside….put it low enough so she can reach it……each time you put her out go and ring the bell….in a month or 2 she will ring the bell when she wants to go out side………………… References :
When potty training a puppy, you definitely want to teach them to go in the same area. This was one of the questions I wasn’t sure about when I started my puppy training and I am so thankful that someone suggested I get a guide written by an expert to answer this and many other questions regarding dog behavior and training that were sure to come up. The best investment I ever made because if you don’t train them right from the beginning, it is so much harder to change unwanted behaviors later. Animals if enter your yard, will draw your pet to the strange intruder, and will want to go and put her sent there, but going in same spot, will creat odor of urine eventually. Crating her good, how about a doggy door to the outside. You are over doing darling. GOOD LUCK TALK TO DOG TRainer, go online and see what they say. References :
you are right about her crapping in the same spot but be a sport and let her choose for herself because as any man knows , a comfortable crap is the best crap . References : im a crapologist
You are doing exactly what you should do. Make sure the area is away from the play zone so when she goes out to potty she potties and not plays. Keep on doing it and tell your wife you are happy she is going outside and she will be happier when the process doesn’t take months to master but a few weeks:>) References :

Nope. Great idea!
Easier to clean up and won’t kill the entire lawn. You’ll find it goes a lot faster too.
