I don’t know of any specific schools, but I know of places that offer training.
Fur’st Choice DoggyDaycare & Boarding offers training. (next door to Great Neck Vet; their website isn’t up yet but I could provide you the number)

Petsmart offers training (I’m not sure if it’s just puppies, but I think they do obedience as well)
Thee Dog House (on VB. Blvd) is a great daycare/boarding facility that offers training, behavior modification and more.
I’ve taken my dogs there for daycare/boarding and have worked close with the owner.

When I’m gone to work I don’t want to leave my puppy in his crate for 4 hrs or more, but I don’t want to leave him in a play room because I don’t want him to use the bathroom in there and think it is okay to go potty in the house. What should i do?
If you don’t want to leave him in the crate for 4 hours, which I agree with and you don’t want to leave him in a room, then you need to pay someone or ask a neighbor or friend to come and take your puppy outside at least once while you are at work.
You don’t say how old the puppy is but he may be able to hold it for 4 hours in the play room if he’s over 3 months of age.
Jul 18, 2010 | 5 | training my puppyShe is new to my home and 8 weeks old. We have puppy training pads for her but she wont use them. I have never seen her use the bathroom and have caught her occasionally peeing on the carpet. Does anyone have tips on how to potty train her.
Kristen W did a pretty good job, but I disagree with scolding for bad potty.
You cannot scold a pup for something they’ve done in the past. Unless you watch her piddle on the carpet, you cannot correct her behavior. If you ARE catching her in the act, it’s better to calmly pick her up mid-wee, and head to the door.
Scolding the potty can make her become afraid to go wee in front of you, and this can set potty training back a LOT because she’ll try her hardest to pee where you cant’ see her. Behind furniture, etc. So, praise and treat good potty like they picked winning lottery numbers. Take her out OFTEN, every 30 mins or so in the beginning. Don’t let her get distracted outside. It’s not play time, it’s business time. Set her up for success, be consistent, be PATIENT, and make sure you clean up inside wee with a enzyme cleanser.
Jul 18, 2010 | 9 | potty trainAlso… does it work? Does it have any chem basis for working or is it a gimick? If it works, where is it sold (mainstream places please….ie target, walmart, supermarkets, etc.)? special tricks for using this spray method, aside from sticker info?
if it doesnt work….any tricks for paper training it without the spray?
this is not my puppy, my bf has a large puppy/dog. i walked from the car to his door in dim light and was worried that i was going to step in something. it left a gift for him on his porch earlier and he didnt do anything abt it ![]()

Jul 18, 2010 | 3 | potty training your dogI am a senior and we have a demonstration speach to do. I love dog training so I decided to bring my dog Missie in to show how to train a dog. She is an attention whore though. Im afraid she will be to busy sucking up all the attention that she wont do the commands. Am I just worrying too much or is their really a problem here?
How she will behave totally depends on your dog. My female is the perfect princess dog and will show off how well behaved she is to the amazement of many watching. My male is usually class clown. Just showing that a dog can be well trained will be a good lesson for many of your fellow students. One trick I always like to show is the long down – people are amazed to watch a dog statue sit for several minutes.
Have fun!

Friend’s dog wont go outside when the other two dogs go out. They get along fine, but for some reason she just stares at you, and then runs away if you try to get her to go out. Of course, the result is, that she eventually has to urinate, and does so in the house. This happens several times per week. Dog is fully grown (not a puppy). Any ideas? Training methods or aids? Thanks!
I’m guessing these dogs haven’t grown up together in the same house? Try taking the dog out on a lease while the other two play. This way, the dog will have to go outside. It could be that the dog is shy while doing "you know what"…Plus, I always find it good to play with all the dogs at once while outside. By doing this, they get used to be on each others territory together.
I know i should just take my dog to the vet but what if your family cant? We have fleas all over my house now and i hate it!!!! But i need help so what do you think? if you think this is a retarted question dont answer please!!!
LIKE RIGHT NOW…clean your house from top to bottom. vaccum and get rid of the bag. THEN get ur dog a flea collar or some of that flea medicine that u pour down his/her back. next you get the flea shampoo too. i had the same problem about not being able 2 get 2 a vet, but if u clean really well, everything should be okay. so will your doggie!

Does Petsmart have dog obedience training? How effective would it be for a 2 month old Australian Shephard that is out of control. He loves to turn over water bowls (it’s 110 degrees here), jump other dogs and cats. Goes to the bathroom inside the house and tears apart everything.
Oh and how much does it cost?
How much is nail clipping for a small Chihuahua?
Yes, PetsMart does obedience training. Starting at 4 months, as long as your puppy has had rabies shots, you can start your training. We did this with our dog. Best thing ever! Ours was $99, but I do know that they have gone up to around $109.
Go to www.petsmart.com to find your local PetsMart to get the phone number of your local store. You can ask them about the nail clippings.
