Recommendations for potty training books?

So I think my son is starting to initiate his own potty training. 18 months old
Tells me when he goes number two. Shakes when he pees. Knows the words for his privates
When it is time to change his diaper I will ask him if he needs his bum changed, he goes in his room and lays on the floor. While Im wiping he will either tell me he can feel his peepee (penis) or that he went number two the whole time. Then he will throw his diaper in the garbage when we are all done.
First Question: Should I be putting him on a potty or is he too young?
Second Question: Good literature recommendations. 1 for me and 1 for me and him to read together he really likes books

It is never too early to potty train if the baby takes the initiative. I have a sister who was potty-trained at 9months old and did not wear pull-ups to sleep since she was a year old. Some babies just don’t like the feel of it and as soon as they can get rid of the diaper they let mommy and daddy know.

Great books for potty training for children:

Potty by Mylo Freeman- This is in the jungle with lots of animals. Its about a potty and like "Cinderella" only the best bottom will fit, but only this little african boy’s bum fits in the end. Pretty fun.

Once Upon a Potty (BOYS) by Alona Frankel

and of course the CLASSIC: Everybody Poops Written and illustrated by Taro Gomi.

Now I don’t know how well he will understand the context of the book, but the pictures will give him an idea that pooping if normal and that everyone does it.

For parents:

No-cry potty training Solution Gentle Ways to Help Your Child Say Goodbye to Diapers

Popular: Potty Training for Dummies by Diane Stafford

Professional: The American Academy of Pediatrics Guide to Toilet Training

Good luck

What are some good books/tips for potty training my 2 1/2 yr old?

My 2 1/2 year old is "ready" for potty training. He is aware when he is going (He’ll say "I’m peeing" or "I making poopoo!"). He understands how his potty works and that he is supposed to go in it and has successfully gone in it several times- HOWEVER – he makes a choice not to use it a lot. For example I will say "I see that you are making a poo poo. Let’s go make it in the potty!" He will reply with "No, I’m going in my diaper". Other times he will agree to do it in the potty.

So, I would like to buy him some books about using the potty to get him more excited about it. He loves books so they are a great way to get his attention. I’ll even read them to him as he sits on the potty! I’ve got "Once Upon a Potty" and "Elmo’s Potty Book". Anyone know of any others? I’d like to get him a few more. Specifically ones that make using the potty seem like the big-boy, super fun, thing to do!

Also – any other tips you moms may have as I start this process would be VERY helpful and very much appreciated

THanks!!!

First stop putting the diaper, no matter if he has accidents. If he has accidents or lets say he does it on purpose, do not get angry,or even worse shout, pls. I would buy him new theme or whatever panties and if he has the accident just tell him, puff now it is dirty, a little bit of emphasis, we have to change it. And just change him.

I am potty training my own son, 27 months. I am very successful, he had a few accidents at first, but now he is doing perfect after one week.
I am only putting a diaper during the night, before he sleeps he uses the potty and in the morning I ask him, the diaper is almost always dry.

He liked the toilet seat for toddlers very much, the onc which you put on the bigger toilet seat, which is very padded. At my mom we have a plastic one, and he say it hurts him, so he prefers the potty.

where can i find free online books for potty training a puppy?

Can someone tell me a good book online for free that I can read on tips to potty training a puppy?

You don’t need books, its not rocket science,
HOW TO TOILET TRAIN A PUPPY.
When the vet says that your dog cannot be taken out until after its injections/shots, this does not mean that it cannot be taken into your own fenced garden/yard. It simply means that your puppy must be kept away from anywhere that could have been contaminated by other dogs.
To help with its socialisation you can visit friends, with the proviso that they do not have a dog. Your puppy can be carried around the outside perimeter of a supermarket; you can also stand outside the school gates to get it used to children. You can take it out in a car and park where your puppy can see passers by.

Please do not be tempted to train your puppy to eliminate in the house. It must be taken into your garden/yard every hour, after it eats or drinks and when it wakes up after a nap. You should also take it out just before you go to bed, every time you see it eliminate you must praise your puppy. I use a catch phrase when my puppy has a pee, I say get one while it is urinating and big job when it passes faeces. If you do this your dog will pee on command when it is older. (Unless its bladder is empty)

You should set your alarm and try to take your puppy out about twice during the night. If like me you are a heavy sleeper and you dont trust yourself to wake up, take the lazy way out. My puppys sleep in the laundry room until they are toilet trained, during the day I dip newspapers into the urine which it has passed in the garden and put these on top of a thick pad of newspaper at night, they are drawn to this because of the smell and they will pee on this during the night. Nevertheless I go to bed very late and get up very early when I have a puppy.

Eventually your puppy will go to the door when it knows that it wants to eliminate. In spite of the fact that I leave newspapers down at night my puppys are clean from an early age. However they are like babies, they have no control until they are older. Regardless of how diligent you are your puppy could still have an accident in the house during the day, it you see it stooping or peeing, pick it up and let it finish in the garden/yard.

What potty training methods work best?

My 21 month old daughter is starting to show interest in the potty. I put her on it when she asks, but nothing has happened yet! What methods have you used that work well for potty training? Any books or websites that would be helpful?

I was told by a nurse that a child’s brain is not ready to potty train till 2 and a half, you can do it earlier but you may find you have a few wet days. when both my children turned 2 years old i let them go around the house with nothing on there bums, i showed them where the potty was and told them what it’s for. if they wet the floor tell them you must use the potty like a big boy or girl. When they have mastered it in the house (can take abit) then you have to tell them it’s time for big boy/girls pants like mum or dad, make sure you reassure them that if they need to go when out you will always find them a potty to go on ( as you may know where it is but your child doesn’t and could get worried and wet themself) this has worked really well for me with both my son and daughter, I found she was faster than he was but some boys can be slower than girls. Hope this helps you in and way. the key is to always reassure them it’s okay and never shout at them for wetting.

Have fun ;)

What does the ebook "Potty Training in 3 Day" have to say about the subject?

I just visited the site. I’m looking into the matter for a friend, but I’m not about to pay $38 for a potty training book when they’re not even my kids. So has anyone gotten it and had success? If so, what’s the premises behind it?

I’ve never read the book, but there was an article on Babycenter.com about potty training in 3 days or less that looked really useful. I put a link to it at the bottom.

Good potty training books?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good potty training book for boys? As in a board book or something that I can subtly slip amongst his regular books to gauge his interest in giving it a go.

Hi rxqueen

My wife and I searched high and low for a quality potty board book. They seemed to be drowned out on numerous sites by the hundreds of other potty training books.
Like you we wanted something aimed at our little boy.
How we stumbled on this amazon ’spin off site’ is beyond us, but it is dedicated to potty training books and has categories dedicated to board books. We bought the top 2 books and haven’t looked back. Our little fella loves em’.

Does anyone know a good potty training book that worked for your kids?

I want to start potty training with my son who’s almost 2. I want to know how to start and do it right. I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

no, but this is what worked for me:

Here it is- it has worked for my 2 kids, and others after I tell them……..

1. get m and m’s handy
2. get a small potty chair- mabee one that plays music
3. get a couple books about potty
4. you need to be home for about 4-5 days straight
5. now you can start. let them run around bare-but
6. Set the timer for 1/2 hour. Tell him/her to sit on the potty for 5 min. (read them a book in the mean time if it’s to long for them.) If they go, give lots and lots of praise!!! I mean go crazy!! Give them about 3 m and m’s.
7. Set the timer for 1/2 hour
8. Avoid asking the question "you got to go potty?’
9. Timer goes off- ok! What does that mean junior? Time to go potty again he or she would say, or you say it if they don’t
10. repeat process all day long. If they go # 2 in the potty, reward with a handful of m and m’s. They are very colorful and kids love them!!

11. Praise praise praise. I do spank my kids for behavior problems such as lying, disobedience, and bad attitudes, but never for having an accident. If there is an accident, clean it up queitly, and don’t say much at all. Remind them it’s ok, but try to make it in the potty next time, or in your own words.

Good luck!!! Hope this helps you. My 2 year old girl was potty-trained in one day with the method. Took my 2 1/2 year old son a week. Leave pull-ups on them at night just in case.
p.s. if this doen’t work at all, try again in a few months.

Reading With your Toddler

Reading is one of the most fundamental skills a parent can teach their child. Most everyday activities require the ability to read to accomplish the task at hand. From preparing a recipe, to navigating city streets, and ordering from a menu;reading is entrenched in our every day life. From the day your child is born, sharing a storybook together should be a every day activity.

When your child is an infant, story time creates a warm safe environment to encourage the connection between words and meaning. At this stage cloth books with bright pictures will be more of a “teething ring”, but your child will love to hold them while listening to your soothing voice.

For a toddler sturdy board books are designed for not so nimble fingers to turn the pages while you read the words on the brightly colored pages. At this age kids will start to connect pictures with words. ABC’s, shapes, and rhyming books are great teaching tools for this age group.

Preschool age children will love to “play” reading and writing games as they near school age. Also books can be more advanced to help “big” kids with things like potty training, starting preschool, and getting along with others.

Reading material with familiar subjects and people are great for teaching your child to read. Books can also boost your child’s self-esteem, excite their imagination, as well as stimulate learning. The greatest benefit though is the time spent sharing a wonderful pastime with your child.
