you need to start off with socialiazing the dog with all kinds of people and well behaved dogs. You can Take puppy obedience classes, they’ll teach you the basic obedience and its good practice to be having the pup do that in front of other dogs.

Socialize!!! If you want your pitty pup to get along well with other dogs, introduce it to other dogs at a young age and keep it up!! Also with pitbulls, to teach them tricks you need to be VERY consistent , they are very hard headed dogs and they want things their way!! Reward them with extra love and praise and the occassional treat or new toy when they do good, and when they don’t preform the trick properly, just keep trying until they get it right!!! Good luck with your pitty pup!!!

    Socialize, socialize, socialize!
Be sure to do lots of research online, and take it to obedient classes! Obedience classes are extremely useful, and I believe every dog should take them, especially a pit bull. I love pitties, and thanks so much for taking care of yours.

Here are a few websites that could help on basics:

Take your pit to dog park , dog beach , anywhere you could take him/her. Make your dog socialize with other dogs and people. I have 8 years old pit since he was 5 weeks.
Pitbulls usually like to play rough. When they are small and cute , people and other dogs don’t mind rough play. The other dogs teach your pit how to play and the stuff your dog learns from mom . Do plenty Exercise, not like 30-45 minutes walk . They need to run . I take mine to dog beach twice a week , he swims for an hour.

Dog training is not breed specific. Yes, some breeds tend to like to do certain things more than others (tracking, chasing toys, etc), but aside from all of that, they’re all dogs, period. Have you ever heard about a Driver’s Education class for white people only? or hispanics only? Your pitbull won’t grow up to be aggressive "just because". It all depends on how you raise it. Pitbulls have a bad reputation because it just so happens to be a breed that gangsters like to fight. These a**holes tease them from puppyhood and will place the poor puppy in situations where it is forced to defend itself. If you raise ANY puppy like that, whether it be a pitbull or a golden retriever, then yes, it will grow up to be a dangerous and unstable dog. In case you were worndering, you can’t keep such a dog as a protection dog because it will be so unstable, that it will even attack its owner. That’s why all these gangsters keep their fighting dogs chained up, or locked up.

However, if you’re a responsible pet owner, then it shouldn’t grow up to be aggressive. Don’t tease the dog while its eating, as I’ve seen stupid kids who seem to get a kick out of pissing off a dog while its eating. As mentioned by many, socialize it! By that, we mean walk your dog around the neighborhood..let it sniff the fire hydrants, bushes, and what not. Let it explore, just don’t let it run around loose without a leash because that’s being an unresponsible pet owner. I’ve noticed that some people like to walk their dogs without a leash, and that’s stupid/irresponsible (then they want YOU to pay for the vet bill when their dog gets hit by your car! that’s why it’s stupid!).

With that said, what you want to do with your puppy is called obedience training. Google it, you can teach it a few tricks on your own, or go to leerburg.com (they go into much more detail). I work at an animal shelter, and we get LOTS of pitbulls of all ages/sizes. In fact, our shelter usually consists of pitbulls and chihuahuas..and of course, quite a few other mutts. To be honest with you, it’s always those chihuahuas that have aggression/fear issues. Most of our accidental bites have been from small breed mutts, chihuahuas, and from very, very few large breed dogs…the pitbulls don’t do squat, and I’m not even a fan of pitbulls, so I’m being unbiased here.
